Alain MacDonald Drake Goldeneye Wall Plaque
Alain MacDonald,Riqaud,Quebec
This is a rare Drake Goldeneye wall placque by the late Alain MacDonald,(1886-1961). This will be sold as seen or as a set of all 8. Please ask for the collection price! Original paint as well as condition, Ca. 1925-1930. A wonderful attribute of this carving is the head is turned out. This gave MacDonald the unique ability to create a full, perfectly carved bill for a overall, graceful and realistic look. Carving retains the original glass eyes. A close look shows the artistic oil feather blending technique of the carver to create some of the best carvings to ever come from Quebec! For a reference please see the book by Michel Be'lisle, "Waterfowl Decoys Of The Montreal Region", page 61 from the Montreal Museum collection. Collectors who have seen this set of eight agree these are rare and report they have never seen a collection of this quality and quantity.

Alain MacDonald Hen Redhead Wall Plaque
Alain MacDonald,Riquad,Quebec
This is another in a collection of eight wall plaque works of art by the late Alain MacDonald, (1886-1961). Pictured is a Hen Redhead in near mint condition. All original paint as well as condition as mentiomned with highly detailed carving to the head and secondary feathering. A wonderful attribute of this bird is the head is turned out. This gave the carver a unique ability to create a full, perfectly carved bill for a overall, graceful and realistic look. The carving retains the original glass eyes. Note the artistic wet on wet paint blending of the oils to create some of the finest carvings to ever come from Quebec in history! Some minor paint rubs as shown to the extreme outside edges. A couple small spots of touch-up which could be removed. For reference material see "Waterfowl Decoys Of The Montreal Region" by Michel Be'lisle, page 61 from the Montreal Museum collection. Ca. 1925-1930. One of the best examples of the group of eight which can be sold individually or as a collection. Please ask for the collection price. This set of remarkable plaques which are very rare were a special order for a prominent Montreal family, the Weirs. As the story goes, they were lost with the hunting lodge where they were displayed in a poker game! The parents gave these to their daughter as a gift and she has had them for 50 years until now!

Charles Schoenheider Sr. Canada Goose Head
Charles Schoenheider Sr.,Peoria,IL.,MW 17
This offering is a Canada Goose head made by Charles Schoenheider Senior of Peoria,Illinois,(1854-1924). Until my trip to the Midwest Decoy collectors show recently, it was thought that Mr. Schoenheider died in 44 or some thought 34. However, after I had a meeting with his family, it is now known that he actually died in 1924, making this as well as all as Schoenheider Sr. decoys older that was once thought and probably as such, generally more valuable.

Drake Bluebill Attributed to Ralph Johnston
Ralph Johnston,Detroit,MI.,Attributed,S
Solid body working Drake Bluebill with bottom keel attributed to Ralph Johnston of Detroit,Michigan. This decoy also could be the work of Ben Schmidt, because Johnston often worked up bodies on his band saw that were used by the Schmidt family of carvers. Johnston was a pattern maker by trade, carved 7,000 decoys approx., for commercial sale and personal use. This carver never has achieved the wide-spread popularity of Ben Schmidt. The decoy is in original paint as well as condition and has great form, detailed bill carving, incised feathers and nice form around the original glass eyes.

Hollow Perry Wilcoxin Drake Canvasback
Perry Wilcoxin, Liverpool,Illinois,MM
Perry Wilcoxin Drake Canvasback(1862-1954). Flat hollow two piece construction, pine body, paddle tail, dimple eyes, snakey neck in the best of the best in terms of form. Three piece head neck construction with a couple small nails under the bill. Decoy was given a careful coat of wash due to several coats of badly done over paint and shows faint remains of the original paint indicating the decoy was a Drake Canvasback. Other than that, the decoy is as found as I simply hate to put any paint at all on ancient great decoys. I recently floated this decoy at a Ducks Unlimited event and was glad I did. As good as it will be on any collectors shelf, I realize it's real home is in the water!
